For many years the Western depot at Dumfries provided repaint and engineering support for the Southern area garages alongside the main works at Kilmarnock. Many of the early Leopard Tow Wagon conversions, DMS dual door conversions and Volvo B10M re-bodying took place here. The paint shops were always kept busy and when a new livery was introduced the Dumfries & Galloway fleet was always quickly out shopped in the latest style.
Seen here at the rear of Dumfries’ Eastfield Road depot are Alexander Y type bodied Seddon Pennine 7 DS527 (ASD827T), ECW bodied Leyland Fleetline FE30AGR DR834 (ASA24T) and Alexander T type bodied Seddon Pennine 7 DS455 (DSD955V). Both DR834 and DS455 can be seen here sporting the final ever Western Scottish livery before being taken over by the Stagecoach group in July 1994.
I’m not a fan of any of these livery styles. The grey looks like an undercoat or primer!
Y type: I’d paint the grey round the windows black, and paint the wheel white.
Fleetline: Paint the grey white.
T type: Where to start…just paint it one of the previous three liveries!
