GCS50V – Leyland Leopard PSU3E/4R

Leyland Leopard GCS 50V was new to Western S.M.T. in April 1980 as JL50 operating from Johnstone depot.  In January 1982 it was transferred to Dumfries in exchange for a Fleetline.  In January 1987 it was painted in Western’s attractive two-tone grey, black and white livery.  By November it was renumbered L750.  In August 1989 the bus was transferred to Carlisle Depot but only three months later moved to Greenock.  In November 1991 it became the third vehicle to be painted in Clydeside 2000 livery.  From January 1994 until May 1995 the bus was operating from Inchinnan but back at Greenock by June 1996 was repainted into the latest Clydeside livery of yellow and red.  Eventually put in reserve, the bus passed to Oban & District in August 1997 themselves becoming part of West Coast Motors.  It was purchased for preservation on the 18th May 2007.

The three month restoration started in December 2007 and consisted of bodywork repairs, major re-panelling and repaint in to the first Clydeside Scottish livery of Red and Yellow. This was worn by Clydeside vehicles from 1985 until 1989 and although not actually carried by this bus was a bright and colourful livery.
