The majority of Western’s Seddon T types received the black, white and grey dual purpose livery but there were rare exceptions to that rule. One such vehicle was Alexander T Type bodied Seddon Pennine 7 S2560 MSJ366P. Delivered new to Western in July 1976, S2560 was originally outshopped in the smart black and white livery with the gold Western scroll fleetnames but in June 1981 she, and sister bus S2559, received advertising liveries for the 21 Glasgow – Glasgow Airport service. Both vehicles advertised Glasgow Airports’ Duty Free Shop and were painted white, with black roof and a broad red band bearing the legend ‘The last stop is Duty Free’. They were also down-seated to C45F with a luggage rack replacing the first two pairs of seats on the offside. In March 1983 both were replaced on service 21 by newer surplus Seddon T Types S2936/7 from Stranraer depot, reseated with dual-purpose seating back to C49F minus their luggage pens (the seating came from withdrawn Y type Leyland Leopards) and repainted into Western’s red and cream livery. Both retained these liveries until their eventual withdrawal in 1984.

Just read the text again: “…reseated with dual-purpose seating back to C49F minus their luggage pens (the seating came from withdrawn Y type Leyland Leopards)…”

I think of non-bus Y types as dual-purpose (others may disagree) and Western T types as coaches. Would this mean these reseated T types are actually dual-purpose and so DP49F?

Eastern and Midland T types had dual-purpose Y type seating, whilst Central, Fife and Northern had the same seats as Western’s DSD9**V batch.

I’d never seen a Western T type in read and cream before. I quite like it.
I really like the Western SCOTTISH fleetname on the front – always thought Western vehicles looked bare without a fleetname on the front.
I prefer the square sidelight/indicators from T reg (1978/79) buses onwards, but I quite like these on the early T types but not sure about them on the Volvo M types. Thoughts?
